Resource Hub

What is "the hub"?

Immunize Oregon is dedicated to providing resources and information to spread awareness and combat misinformation. We’ve created “The Hub” as a place to share information, partner resources, and quick facts that are easily accessible. These resources are designed to be shared with providers, parents, community members, and coalition members. Our coalition members also have access to our Community Platform, which can connect you directly with other partners and help you find more specific events, resources, and programs you can connect with.

Frameworks Presents: Toolkit on Boosting Public Discourse & Reframing Childhood Immunization. Advocacy from pediatricians is vital. This toolkit offers a suite of resources to help your voice cut through the chaos. All draw from original, rigorous social science research on framing strategies that are effective for outreach, education, and advocacy communications about childhood immunizations.

These strategies can help you make strategic decisions about what you say about vaccine access and vaccine policy in settings like these:

  • Letters to the editor, op/eds, or other written commentaries
  • Testimony to legislative committees or other public bodies
  • Contributions in multidisciplinary policy working groups
  • Public talks to nonscientific audiences
  • Press releases or media advisories
  • Comments in print, television, or podcast interviews
  • Social media messaging

Addressing Confusion

Vaccine recommendations can change, causing confusion and affecting vaccine confidence. This section of the Hub will try to address updates, schedule changes, policy changes, and more as they become relevant.

Oregon Vaccine Policy

Shots are required by law for children in attendance at public and private schools, preschools, child care facilities, and Head Start programs in Oregon. Nearly every place that provides care for a child outside the home requires shots or a medical or nonmedical exemption to stay enrolled.

You can learn more about school requirements and exemptions on the Oregon Health Authority website

You can get most vaccines at your doctors office or a local pharmacy.

House Bill 2486 passed in 2023 that allows pharmacists and pharmacy technicians to administer vaccines to patients as young as 7 years old unless there is a current state of emergency or emergency order that, which can allow them to vaccinate as young as 3 year olds.

House Billl 2287 Passed in 2023 to allow pharmacists to administer the flu vaccine specifially to children 6 months and older.

Find COVID-19 and flu vaccines at Vaccines.gov or call 1-800-232-0233 (TTY 1-888-720-7489).

What is the Vaccine Access program?

The Oregon Immunization Program (OIP) is committed to ensuring and increasing access to vaccines for people of all ages. OIP has a Vaccine Access Program that allows providers to enroll to receive state-supplied vaccine to serve their entire population. All vaccine is supplied at no cost, and providers code each dose of vaccine given to show the eligibility for that vaccine and that patient. Eligibility codes in ALERT IIS are used to send quarterly bills for patients who are insured, and the participating clinics do not need to purchase a separate stock of private vaccine for these patients.

Who is eligible to receive VFC vaccine?
To be eligible for VFC, a child (age 0-18 years) must fit one of these categories:

Enrolled in Medicaid/Oregon Health Plan;
Uninsured; or
American Indian/Alaskan Native.
Children whose health insurance policies do not cover some or all vaccines, or only cover vaccines until a child reaches a certain age (i.e. considered “underinsured”), may receive no cost immunizations at public sites such as county health department clinics and clinics that are designated as a Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC) or a Rural Health Clinic (RHC).
